Key Largo

Key Largo is the largest and northernmost of the Keys. It houses the first undersea park created in the United States, the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Key Largo is also popularly known as the “Diving Capital of the World” because of its rich coral reefs and various other dive and snorkel sites which attract countless scuba divers from all over the world.

Popular Destinations

Key Largo offers a wide array of tourist destinations to match the unique tastes of guests. A soul-stirring experience with raw nature in one of the state parks is recommended for those charmed by the natural. The famous Everglades National Park presents an ecosystem not found anywhere else. The balance of these unlikely conditions comprises the habitat of the celebrated bald eagle along a myriad of other fascinating wildlife.

As an island, however, the main attractions in Key Largo lie in its abundant waters where the mild manatees roam. These waters are well visited by divers and snorkelers for its famous sites such as the Molasses Reef and The Elbow.

In these same waters, shipwrecks rest on the ocean floor: some as testimonies to the eerie history of the islands and others are intended to create new attractions and habitats. The Spiegel Grove, a 510-foot long dock landing ship, was sunk to provide a new reef. This shipwreck is accessible only to advanced divers.

Boating and fishing trips are also extensively offered to visitors in many resorts in Key Largo. Take a cruise on your own or on a rented sailboat or join the scores of anglers in fishing and relaxation.

Wind down after your day’s adventures in one of Key Largo’s bars, restaurants, hotels, and resorts and perhaps prepare for another thrilling day at “the first of the Florida Keys”.
